Artist Bio
Early
on, Cassie knew that her passion for communicating emotion could be
done most effectively with photography. Upon moving to Asheville,
NC in 2000 she continued her undergraduate studies in photography
and art education while using the surrounding environment as her inspiration.
While visiting small chapels and religious sites in Western North
Carolina, Cassie began to notice the effects of mountain top removal
and development in the most remote locations in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
This led to a transition in her work from photographing symbolic religious
icons to documenting the desecration of sacred spaces. In a 2004 exhibition,
Through Women’s Eyes, By Women’s Hands,
Cassie received a Juror’s Choice Award for one of her Appalachian
images. Upon receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree and teaching licensure
in Art, she taught high school art while continuing to assist other
photographers. It was during this time that her subject matter shifted
to catching the essence of the individual. In addition to capturing
the growing lives of family and friends, Cassie and her partner were
blessed with the birth of their own daughter. They have recently relocated
to the northeast Ohio region, where Cassie continues to photograph
weddings and families.
